Things Are Happening in Stirchley

July 22, 2010

Stirchley Happenings is proud to be working in partnership with Loaf, South Birmingham Food Cooperative and Birmingham Town Centre Partnerships to establish a sustainable community market in Stirchley. As well as assisting with overall coordination, we will be looking after our arts and crafts stall, from which we will be selling a range of work from illustrators, artists and makers who have a connection with the local area. So, if you are on the lookout for a unique gift for a friend or relative, or would simply like to treat yourself, there will be an array of postcards, badges, mobile phone pouches, notebooks, rail/bus pass holders, tote bags and other items – you won’t want to leave the stall empty handed!

Stirchey Happenings will be launching a local film night later this year and alongside gift ideas there will be an opportunity to let us know your favourite film – a movie you would like to see on our big screen. So please drop by and help us refine our ideas about what to show and where and when to show it.

One of our main aims as a community organisation is to generate and support cultural activity in the local area. We also want to improve the local built environment; increase awareness, pride and participation in Stirchley and its history; and support suitable opportunities for investment. We feel that developing a community market will encourage residents to celebrate the area, as well as showing visitors what we have to offer – putting Stirchley back on the cultural and business map. Our craft stall will showcase local creative talent, providing the opportunity for the artists to sell their work and raise their profile. Our film night will seek to breathe life back into some of the dormant spaces in the area, as well turning the spotlight on some of our best-loved local venues and restaurants.

We are excited about the potential of Stirchley and how it can continue to be a great place to live through valuing the contributions of the community.
